NNZ-2591

NNZ-2591, which readily crosses the blood-brain
barrier, has shown potent effects in standardised
models of Parkinson’s disease and memory
impairment.

NNZ-2591 is the lead compound in Neuren’s diketopiperazine family, a class of cyclic dipeptides with a good history of safety and efficacy as pharmaceuticals. NNZ-2591 shows excellent potential as a drug candidate. It is 100 percent orally available, highly soluble and straightforward from a manufacturing perspective. Preliminary studies also suggest that it has a wide safety margin and a low probability of side effects.

Neuren has reported positive preclinical results of improved learning and memory after oral dosing of NNZ-2591, suggesting that NNZ-2591 has the capacity to improve learning and memory processes after short-term treatment. The data extended the potential application of NNZ-2591 as a treatment for dementias such as those associated with over 70 percent of Parkinson’s disease patients.
